About the Career Analysis Tool
This tool is based on research with 17,000 people, which produced three main lessons about career choice:
- Some careers are inherently more enjoyable than others, irrespective of your personality profile, such as being a writer or entrepreneur.
This is probably because the job gives you a lot of autonomy to manage your own work and focus on subjects that are of most interest to you. In contrast, being an assistant to someone else (who manages your work and decides what you do) tends to be one of the least enjoyable jobs (though some people do enjoy it).
- The closer the match between your personality profile and the job profile, the more likely you are to enjoy it.
The diagram shows the results of our research. Closer matches of personality and job are to the right, more enjoyment to the top. The curve suggests you don't need an exact match. Once the match score gets above 60%, the degree of enjoyment stays the same.
- There are other factors that also influence career choice.
These can include things such as your pay expectations, your aspirations for career progression, values, lifestyle, etc.
The optimum for career enjoyment is to choose a quality job (that is inherently enjoyable), matches your personality, and meets your other requirements such as pay, values, and other lifestyle factors. The career analysis tool provides a 'predicted job enjoyment' score (usually in the range 1 to 6) that combines job quality and personality match. It also provideds information to help you examine the other factors.
The free analysis provides the top 10 career matches. There is a low cost premium report pack that includes 300 careers, lets you select and sort them in different ways, and provides lots of additional resources to help you find a career you will enjoy, develop your leadership potential, improve your relationships, and deepen your self-awareness.
